kid wants a bigger hard drive for his 360. i guess these maps on COD have his 10gb almost full. so, what size do i get? i've seen 20, 60, 250gb for them. his is the non slim original style he says. should be a good Christmas present but i have no clue what to get.

It's cheaper to buy an external hard rive and plug into the USB port. Oh can get massive one for 80 bucks or a 20g jump drive for cheap

keep in mind tho it isnt 100 percent plug and play.
quick search will tell you why on google o or yahoo. it isnt hard by any means but it's not plug and play right away.

this is why he hasn't used his for this
Xbox's connection with an external drive is read-only. You can only read files that are already on the drive after connecting. You can't save game files or anything else on the Xbox main drive onto the external hard drive

all of your dlc "down loadable content" will have to be re downloaded onto the new hard drive as far as i recall. ive never had to recover a gamer tag or re download any of the stuff so some one else may have to chime in. places sell a data transfer cable that you can transfer your game saves from one hard drive to another but that's it. the actual dlc is

You will have to rwdownload all maps and gamer tags, and other saved stuff.
If you do want to get a new hard drive, place all the old hd info on your external hard drive then put new hd on and copy it all to it. Downloading everything would take forever.

im just wondering, have you actually done this? im gonna have to guess no because the dlc is licensed to that particular console which means you have to re download it all again any way. your dlc also has DRM on it as well.
the only way you can openly move files from one device to another is with software like modio. even then tho dlc or xbox live games are not openly transferable from hard drive to hard drive unless you have a jtaged xbox if i recall correctly.

all 360's have cooling fans.
the new 360's have better cooling control, wifi built in, quieter running, and are a bit smaller.

Id' just do something like this you might beable to save 10-20 by putting a hd in the existing case but is it worth it?

wife says if we can get new console for two hundred. then that's what we're doin. if not, we'll look into these options

I didn't actually transfer the maps, but the option is there so I assume their is no issue. You'll see here that one is the original hard drive and one is a jumpdrive:

You can pretty much transfer anything over such as games/gamertags/ saved games.
http://i370.photobucket.com/albums/oo144/Ryanm2323/88e5d0e2.jpg
The only difference is you have to hit A one time to select which memory device to save to. It's pretty self explanatory I doubt your kid will have issues here.

The read only is irrelevant since when a game saves data is erases and saves new, it does not alter the existing data.
