I have a 1979 Mustang that I just put a bunch of later H.O. parts on including 1988 stock shorty headers. Runs pretty dang good aside from a little hesitation when I first put the peddle down (that is problem #2)

Problem #1 is she sounds like a helicopter! I cut the existing exhaust so I could orient it to the shorties. Now my issue is they do not seal causing nasty exhaust leaks.

Question- most aftermarket exhaust parts for Fox Chassis state 1987+, is that because of the stock shorties? If I find an H pipe for an 87+ will it bolt right up seeing as I now have 88 stock shorties? Same with the rest of the exhaust?

they made very few if any changes from 79-93 all the exhaust should work without any problems

if it doesnt have dual exhaust on it now,you will have to swap to a double hump cross member specific for an auto or man. depending on what you have and youll have to get a hanger off a 5.0 car to hang the rear tail pipes if your running them.

If you need an H for shorties, let me know. I've had a good one for sale for...eh...a year now...

My exhaust looked like a home made job, and it wouldnt bolt right up. A cut and slight turn and it seemed to. However with it tightened down all the way I have a nice leak.... The metal to metal seal sometimes makes things easier. There are however those other times when I miss the old donut gaskets :)

well with the stock shorties,a h pipe for a fox should bolt right up along with a cat back for a fox as long as the right cross member and hangers are there.

Looks like I have the hangers. Just jacked it back up to look around and found two cut off hangers on either side of my trans. I am going try a Fox H pipe and catback. It is time my homemade, patchwork exhaust went byebye!

With an H pipe from Samickguy15, some Dynomax 86-93 tail pipes a buddy had, new intermediate pipes and new Thrush mufflers I am in business. Did I mentioned exhaust work sucks when you dont have a lift?

Seek out RLS Racing for your exhaust needs - you won't be disappointed. He could charge double for his art work.

It's not that bad... I installed a Kooks 3.5" X-pipe kit w/ some dynomax bullet mufflers and 4" (ricer) turn-downs I had sitting around, here at home... probably 6 or so years ago. I was on vacation and didn't want to bother going back down to the shop, at the time. :whacko: I used some jackstands to hold things in place and it actually turned-out really nice... just took twice as long as it would've, had I been at the shop, using a lift.

Just take your time and make sure everything flows okay before crimping everything down with clamps, etc.

If you run into a snag, or decide you want the mufflers welded rather than clamped, look me up... ;)

And thanks :checkit: for the mention, ehackett.

I may yet pay you to fix it... Tonight the wife and I decided to check the cruise at EP Sonic out, and do mini golf. Decided to take the stang on the interstate and come back to Morton the back way. Several times during this trip I scrapped the pavement and had to almost come to a stop over RR tracks. The H pipe aims down toward the road, then the exhaust angles up from the mufflers. I am going to try and loosen it at the shorties, intermediates, and mufflers, turn the H pipe up, add some hangers at the rear of the H pipe, and cross my fingers.

All of that said new/upgraded shocks/struts are on my list and would help. Even with bad shocks I am just to low were my H pipes connects to the intermediates. I had assumed no pro would touch it since I do not have cats....

Don't waste your time - take it to RLS and your worries are over. Then you can get back to cruisin....
