everyday for that past week or so when i get on the interstate on my way home, the s10 temp. rises up to like 240-250 degrees, the "check gauges" light comes on and then it drops down to regular temp around 200-210 degrees where it usually stays. i checked antifreeze and it has plenty, no leaks so idk im leaning towards bad thermostat. anyone with ideas?

240-250 degrees is asking for a popped head gasket and/or warped head. I'd be very carefuly with that business. Thermostats are designed to fail open IIRC. I'd definately get a new one. Probably a water pump too while you're at it.

x2 - especially if your s10 is a 4 cyl- its not a matter of IF it will happen, its a matter of WHEN it will happen...

yeah like i said it just started doing it within the last few days maybe a week. this morning i watched it on the way to work and it got up to like 225-230 but dropped back down quickly. tonight i will go to the parts store and at least get a thermostat then.

wow, maybe i'll buy a water pump too. i didnt expect them to be so cheap. i was thniking at least $100 but a reman is only $18.99 and a new one is $30.99

I'd suggest you go new, as I've encountered problems with reman pumps before. They're cheap, because there is not much to them, plus they are a common wear/repair item, so massive quantities.

right, that engine is easy to work on too so it shouldnt be much to get it swapped out.
